This Practice is part of a network of general practices in the East of England who host medical research on a regular basis, the Primary Care Research Newtork (PCRN). This department along with the National Institute for Health Research(NIHR) are funded by the Dept. of Health and they are dedicated to expanding clinical research in primary care by doubling the number of patients participating in research in the next 5 years. It is the aim of the NHS that all patient care is based on research and that research informs the decsions we make in the NHS. Dr. Taylor leads research at this practice working closely with the PCRN and Study Co-ordinators. All staff undertaking research at the practice have had additional research training.
You may be approached by a member of staff to help participate in a research project. Please consider the patient information carefully. This information may be given to you by your Nurse, Doctor or other Health Professional. You could help shape the future of health care by considering and helping with research projects that you may be invited to participate in. All medical information is confidentail and only if you agree to take part in the research will any researcher have access to your medical details.
Participation in any research is voluntary. You may refuse to take part in research without it affecting your usual medical care.
Presently the surgery has a number of studies running and these are co-ordinated by Michele Taylor Research Nurse Co-ordinator. Her role is to inform patients about apropriate studies, consent patients and co-ordinate the care involved.
All network research has been approved by a Research Ethics Committee and has Primary Care Trust approval.
